In Arabic literature, proverbs have not been fully studied and classified by linguists; linguists called many kinds of words they found proverbs; however, they do not have the characteristics of aproverbs; because the features of the proverbs are clear: its phrasing is concise, its meaning is accurate and it contains a beautiful simile, it is a sentence becomes widespread among the people. Many linguists have accepted non-sentence words and phrases, idioms, nicknames and tags as proverbs and have included them in their books; again, they considered many wisdoms and rare words as proverbs; In these words, there are also the words of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and the Companions; therefore, we need to make serious efforts to distinguish the proverb from the non proverb. In this study, we aim to determine some criteria that will distinguish the proverb from the non-proverb by focusing on this point and providing information about other types of words.</p> ER -
